Tour Start Hotel Pickup

On a full-day guided tour of Zanzibar, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken on a walking tour of Stone Town, followed by a visit to an organic spice farm and an exploration of the ancient Prison Island. Wander through a maze of chaotic lanes amid towering limestone buildings, interacting with Aldabra tortoises.

Stone Town Walking Tour

Begin your day with a walking tour of Stone Town, Zanzibar City's oldest district, to see historical sights such as slave markets, bustling daily marketplaces, and attractive small lanes, followed by shopping.
Zanzibar's historic capital city is Stone Town, which is known for its rich cultural legacy dating back to the nineteenth century. Zanzibar, which reflects a blend of Arabian, Indian, Persian, and European influences, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. As you go through the twisting alleyways, you may relive the greater past of this port city by admiring ancient palaces, the Sultan's Palace, and Arab houses. You will also gain insight into the tragic history of slave trading.

Spice Farm Walking Tour

Following your walking tour, you will be driven to the plantation, where you will understand why Zanzibar is known as "Spice Island". The Spice Tour is a must-do tour on Zanzibar, often known as the Spice Island, due to its reputation as a global leader in spice production, including clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

More than just touring, you will be able to smell, touch, and even taste some of the crops cultivated on the island, as well as learn about the ancient uses of the spices. Portuguese traders introduced spices and herbs to Zanzibar in the 16th century, bringing them from their South American and Indian colonies. Take a guided walking tour of a spice farm and see how spices, herbs, and fruits are grown firsthand. Your skilled guide will explain the cultivation processes and different applications for these crops.

During the tour, you'll smell and taste spices, herbs, and tropical fruits like coconuts, papaya, chile, black pepper, cinnamon, turmeric, vanilla, cardamom, cassava, cloves, and lemongrass.

Following the tour, have a typical Swahili lunch at the farm, where you will be able to experience the various culinary applications of spices.

Prison Island

Finally, take a boat ride offshore to Prison Island, commonly known as 'changuu' in Swahili. It is home to big land tortoises imported from Seychelles. Touch and feed the creatures that live at a sanctuary. Learn about the island's past usage as a jail for rebellious slaves in the 1860s.
The Aldabra Giant Tortoise Sanctuary is a popular tourist destination, with its oldest resident dating back 200 years. These non-indigenous, beautiful creatures weigh an average of 200 kg and can live for over a century.

You will take a boat ride offshore to Stone town. After this memorable day, our driver will drop you off back at your hotel.
